Module 1

How to use the computer (4/6)

A desktop or stationary computer is easy to start up and to use. It is designed for regular use at a single location on or near a desk due to its size and power requirements.

The computer has a separate keyboard, mouse and screen that all needs to be properly plugged in to each other and to a power source to function.

  1. Make sure that the keyboard, screen and mouse are properly connected and have electricity. If it is a stationary computer this is usually prepared and managed by someone else, depending on where you are.

  2. When it is set up you are ready to turn it on! You need to turn on both the screen as well as the computer. Look for the ON button on the front of the actual computer – it should look like this picture above.

  3. Wait and be patient as the computer starts up, it can take a while. Don´t do anything when it is working, just wait for the computer to tell you what to do next.

  4. It may ask you to log in – if it is a school- or work computer, the IT department will give you more information.
